About Lauren
I’m Lauren Macmadu, a storyteller, leader, and advocate for the power of creativity to drive meaningful change. As the Chief External Relations Officer at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (YBCA) in San Francisco, I lead efforts to connect people, ideas, and communities, working to amplify voices and foster connections through innovative storytelling and engagement.
My journey began in the world of ballet, training at the San Francisco Ballet School and performing professionally with the Dance Theatre of Harlem. These formative experiences shaped my understanding of the discipline, grace, and power required to tell stories that resonate deeply. As a Presidential Leadership Scholar, I’ve explored how storytelling can be a catalyst for action, transforming perspectives and creating new possibilities.
At the heart of everything I do is a commitment to excellence in action—the belief that through intentional effort, authenticity, and creativity, we can inspire change and bring out the best in ourselves and others. My personal mission is to harness storytelling as a tool to change hearts and minds, whether through artistic expression, leadership, or connection.
Looking ahead, I’m driven by a vision of a world where every story has the power to unite, uplift, and inspire. I hope to continue building bridges between communities, empowering others to find their voices, and creating spaces where transformative ideas and actions can flourish. Together, I believe we can shape a future that celebrates creativity, embraces empathy, and moves boldly toward a brighter, more inclusive tomorrow.
